Project description: Elaborated and provided by DG REGIO with European wide information relating to key themes and territorial indicators (e.g.: demography, climate change, environment, energy, urban development, transport) and perform ad-hoc analyses on specific issues (e.g.: scenario modelling, impact assessment…). Policy support to smart specialisation strategies, including at macro-regional level, for energy and for global value added.
Roles & Responsibilities in the project: as Scientific officer and Researcher
The main activity was to assess the potential of European regions for solar power generation. The methodology was based on a multicriteria assessment (MCA) supported by Geographical Information System (GIS) using high-resolution layers. The European suitability map was compared to the European regional funds allocated according to the EU Cohesion policy (programme 2007-2013). Validation techniques were applied to estimate the robustness of the model.
